Group calls for class, schoolwork suspension

Following the “emergency maintenance” announcement by a major telecommunications company, a youth group on Thursday called for the cancellation of classes and suspension of the assignments given to students – particularly in private schools.

Samahan ng Progresibong Kabataan demanded that the country’s education authorities – the Department of Education as well as the Commission on Higher Education – to act “appropriately” by suspending the classes until the maintenance work by the telco is finished.PLDT Inc. announced in an advisory dated Sept. 23 that it will conduct emergency maintenance activities on one of its international cable systems from Sept. 25 to Sept. 30.
