THE government is studying the possible use of rapid antigen testing to help boost efforts to screen patients with coronavirus disease 2019 , a Palace official said on Thursday.

“There’s also a new technology, which is also lab-based, but will have a faster turnaround which is the antigen test,” Nograles said during an interview with ABS-CBN News Channel. Nograles said the antigen testing, which could detect a part of the coronavirus, was expected to give “more accurate” results at a faster turnaround.

The Food and Drug Administration reportedly said that antigen tests were still not as reliable as the real-time polymerase chain reaction tests, dubbed as the “gold standard” of Covid-19 testing.
