Every morning, urban poor families from Barangay Payatas, Quezon City, struggling to cope with hunger because of the Luzon-wide lockdown would get their daily bread from a group of Good Samaritans. | MariejoRamosINQ

“We are looking to sustain and expand this initiative. A single pandesal costs P2. Twenty pesos can feed one family and provide jobs for the bakers and their staff,” said Pilario.

Arriola was only one of several people from Bread of Salt Initiative who came together to feed the poor with pandesal.“The scheme is what I call a left-to-right form of help. You help small community bakeries keep afloat while helping families and individuals in need,” said Rach Tambay, who is also with the group.

“That NVM Gonzales story tells us [that] it’s the bread of the poor. It’s nourishment from one human being to another.” As of Tuesday, the Bread of Salt Initiative had delivered around 30,000 pandesal to 4,000 households.

MariejoRamosINQ Ingat po! Baka paimbestugahan din kayo ng administrasyong duterte.

‘Give aid to the poor ASAP’, senators urge DSWD“Let us spare our fellow Filipinos this unnecessary procedure. Our kababayans are getting hungry and desperate for help. They lost jobs. Give the aid ASAP (as soon as possible).” Members of the Senate minority bloc on Thursday questioned the need for the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to distribute social amelioration cards (SAC) to intended beneficiaries when the agency is supposed to have all the information on poor and low-income families that need the government’s financial assistance. Yes to ID system. Yan ang sagot talaga sa mabilisang pagkilos ng gobyerno para sa mga nangangailangan. Transparency wise, masmabilis ang singilan at paggalaw ng hustisya pag may mangungurakot.
