Neophyte Senator Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go urged the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) and Dangerous Drugs Board (DDB) to maximize the use of existing drug rehabilitation facilities to give drug dependents willing to be rehabilitated a chance to reform.

Go made the appeal during Monday’s public hearing by the Senate finance sub-committee C chaired by Senator Panfilo M. Lacson on the proposed P1.5 billion budget for 2020 for the PDEA and P2.17 billion for the DDB.

He asked PDEA Director General Aaron Aquino what support the Senate could provide to further strengthen and maximize the existing drug rehabilitation facilities provided by the government. Aquino stated that the best rehabilitation method for illegal drug dependents is a community-based treatment. He emphasized the need for the government to also improve community-based rehabilitation programs nationwide.
