Gilas Pilipinas played steadier down the stretch as it outlasted a fighting Changwon LG Sakers, 86-81, in an exhibition match on Friday, September 22, at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.

The national squad, which is using its only tune-up game as part of its final preparation for the 19th Asian Games, drew 19 points, five rebounds and three assists from naturalized player Justin Brownlee.The 6-foot-4 Brownlee is back in action after undergoing ankle surgery early in August.FIBA World Cup veteran June Mar Fajardo added 16 points, while Calvin Oftana churned out a double-double of 13 and 11 rebounds, keeping Gilas afloat with his timely baskets in the third quarter.

Scottie Thompson added nine points and four assists, while recent addition CJ Perez added eight for the Filipinos who shot 58.1 percent from the floor.The Filipinos managed to keep their focus despite the uncertainty hanging on the Asian Games status of Calvin Abueva, Terrence Romeo, Jason Perkins, Moala Tautuaa and Stanley Pringle.Tim Cone opted to let recent replacements Marcio Lassiter, CJ Perez, Arvin Tolentino, Kevin Alas and Chris Ross play in the tune-up game.
