DAVAO CITY – The city government will continue to provide free bus rides for all employees allowed to work under the general community quarantine even as the city has also allowed the operation of public transportation starting Saturday, May 16.“We will still have free rides from the City Government of Davao. We will still continue this as long as there is a quarantine,” Mayor Sara Duterte said on Friday.
The city mayor pointed out, however, that even with the operation of public transportations under the GCQ, the implementation of the physical distancing measures must be observed in prevention of the spread of the coronavirus disease .
This was the minimum requirement of the city government for the PUJs should the city start allowing public transport to operate again. Meanwhile, taxis and private vehicles will still have to follow the same measures required under the enhanced community quarantine . “Our private vehicles and taxis – one driver, one passenger in front, one passenger at the back,” Duterte said.Passengers taking the public transport will still have to present proof of employment, or food and medicine pass in cases of an identification check by the public transport driver or a law enforcer.
