MANILA—Gilas Pilipinas coach Yeng Guiao was pleased with the result of the national team's first tune-up game in its road to the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
"Coming into the game, I didn't really expect much. But the guys really showed good effort. I'm happy with the results," said Guiao. A clutch triple by Marcio Lassiter with under a minute left kept Gilas alive after Mighty Sports had pulled away by 6, before CJ Perez tied the game at 85 with 15 seconds to go. The Philippines' defense then held strong in the end game, with Lassiter doing enough to bother McKenzie Moore in his final attempt.
"So encouraging naman 'yung resulta… I'd like to thank Mighty for giving us a really good tune-up today."
