CHIEF Presidential Legal Counsel Juan Ponce Enrile over the weekend defended President Ferdinand 'Bongbong' Marcos Jr. on his frequent travels abroad, saying foreign trips 'serve a purpose' in pushing the country's best interests.

'The President would travel everyday if he could,' the former Senate leader said in a radio interview last Saturday. 'The President's trips, that's for the country.''What do they want the President to do, just sit around Malacañang and not touch base with other countries? Not talk about problems, especially those about the security of the country?' he added.

Moreover, directly connecting with the local governments, local communities and sectoral groups is an integral part of the President's decision-making process,' Presidential Communications Office Secretary Cheloy Garafil said in an earlier statement.
