“Ang concern ni presidente dito, sino ba ang nagre-regulate sa ngayon. Hindi ba kapag nagsisigarilyo ka ng vape, pagbuga mo wala bang epekto ang second hand smoke sa katabi mo?” Go asked health officials during their department’s budget hearing on Wednesday.
“Sinabi niya sa akin na kung same ang epekto ng buga ng secondhand smoke sa katabi, then he will consider it the same sa mga existing cigarettes.”Food and Drug Administration Officer-in-Charge Rolando Enrique Domingo said the FDA has already issued rules and regulations on the “electronic nicotine and non-nicotine delivery system”, the government’s term for vapes.
Domingo cited studies which showed that secondhand exposure to vape may also be just as bad as secondhand cigarette smoking. Domingo said the FDA administrative order sets the guidelines for the sale and use of vapes. It also states that the use of vapes must be in accordance to Duterte’s 2017 EO, which provides standards for a spot to be considered a designated smoking area.
In the United States, concerns have been growing over the use of vape following the deaths of seven people from suspected vape-related illnesses.
