Presidential Spokesperson Salvador Panelo earlier announced that Duterte would cut his trip to the East Asian nation short, due to"unbearable pain in his spinal column near the pelvic bone."Duterte was able to attend the enthronement rites of Japanese Emeperor Naruhito, but had difficulty walking.
"The President has attended the enthronement rites earlier today, albeit carrying a cane to assist him in his walk," Panelo said.Duterte is scheduled to see a neurologist on October 23 for his condition. A photo shared by the Presidential Communications Operations Office showed Duterte using a cane as he spoke with his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte who was part of the President's entourage.Of the Duterte's early return, Panelo said,"While this was unforeseeable, the public can rest assured that there is nothing to worry [about], as [in] regards [to] the physical health and condition of the President as he gives serious priority thereto in actively serving our country.
The President was unable to attend the subsequent Emperor's banquet, nor the Prime Minister's banquet scheduled tomorrow.
