Nursing an aching spine, President Rodrigo Duterte flew in to the country Tuesday night from Japan as he cut short a scheduled 2-day trip after witnessing the enthronement of Japanese Emperor Naruhito

. Malacañang said Duterte had to come home early as he was experiencing "unbearable pain in his spinal column near the pelvic bone as a consequence of his fall during his motorcycle ride last week."

He missed the Emperor's banquet Tuesday night and his daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, who also attended the enthronement ceremony, came in his place. Two other versions had Duterte falling off his parked bike as he tried to tie his shoe, and another where he reportedly bumped into an obstruction on his way out of a garage in the compound.
