The Department of Social Welfare and Development has dispatched the members of its Quick Response Team to assist the local goverment units in extending assistance to the most affected communities by Taal Volcano’s phreatic and magmatic eruptions.In a statement released on Monday night, January 13, the agency assured that its QRT, led by DSWD Field Office CALABARZON Director Annie Mendoza, has been deployed since Sunday to assist the affected communities around Taal Volcano.
“When Alert Level 4 was declared, which requires evacuation in areas within the 14-kilometer radius from the crater, Secretary Bautista and the DSWD disaster team helped in moving out the affected residents to Sto. Tomas and Nasugbu,” a DSWD statement said. “The disaster team stayed in Talisay until the last batch of evacuees was brought to the Sto. Tomas Gymnasium in Batangas which serves as one of the consolidating areas,” according to the DSWD.
It noted that as of 6 p.m. of January 13, there were 4,960 families or 21,937 persons from CALABARZON Region who have been affected by the Taal Volcano eruption. The information was given by the DSWD-Disaster Response Operations and Monitoring Information Center .It disclosed more than P300,000 worth of family food packs have been delivered by Field Office CALABARZON “as augmentation support to the LGU of Laurel.
