The Department of Transportation’s (DOTr) inter-agency Technical Working Group (TWG) said that there will no longer be any extension for its pilot program for motorcycle-taxies after March 2020.

More than 10,000 of bikers belonging to the motorcycle taxi ride hailing service Angkas converged at the Edsa Shrine in Quezon City early morning of December 22, 2019 to express their opposition to the recent announcement by the LTRFB Technical Working Group of a membership limit of 10,000 riders per ride hailing service which will force Angkas to lay-off 17,000 riders.

The transport official was talking about the need to amend Republic Act No. 4136 or the Land Transportation and Traffic Code before they can allow bikes as a mode of public transport. “They are running now on the road because of the study. That’s what they need to understand. It’s not about livelihood,” he said.

KAguilarINQ is TWG saying the motorcycle as a mode of transportation is inherently “risky” / unsafe for those who ride it, be it Angkas or the riding public in general? what makes the motorcycle “risky” when turned into an Angkas motorcycle? KAguilarINQ Most of the passengers is willing to take the risk than spending longer hours on the traffic. We cant control them, you stop Ankas and more habal habal will emerge.
