The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) on Tuesday urged members of the police force to respect the revamp in the Philippine National Police (PNP) as authorized by President Duterte through DILG Secretary Eduardo Año.

“The current revamp in the Philippine National Police has the full authority coming from Secretary Eduardo Año as head of the DILG, the National Police Commission and the President himself,” DILG Undersecretary and spokesman Jonathan Malaya said.

With this, Malaya asked all police officers to abide by and support the revamp of PNP officers which was implemented by the Philippine National Police officer-in-charge Lieutenant General Archie Gamboa. In explaining the reshuffling of key PNP personnel, Malaya said the revamp is necessary to “regain the trust and confidence of the Filipino people and the President and for the entire organization.”

Malaya noted the agency had received questions on whether Gamboa was authorized to implement the major shake-up within the police organization.“There were just some questions na bakit daw OIC lang eh nakapag-reshuffle ng mabigat . Meron siyang full authority from the NAPOLCOM . Nakausap ko si Vice Chairman Casurao, nakausap ko rin si Secretary Año tungkol diyan so he has full authority ,’’ he added.

Gamboa earlier has ordered a major reshuffling of PNP officers after the following President expressed dismay and wrath over the supposed involvement of police officials in the alleged drug recycling scheme. Gamboa said he is expecting “fresh ideas, fresh enthusiasm and fresh resolve” from commanders following the latest major shakeup within the police organization.
