The Department of Environment and Natural Resources has issued show-cause orders to over 200 owners of structures built inside the government-designated “protected areas” along the Marikina-Rizal-Laguna-Quezon Highway.

Nilo B. Tamoria, DENR-Calabarzon regional executive director, said such “areas are protected by Republic Act 7586 or the National Integrated Protected Areas System Act, as well as RA 11038 or the Expanded or E-NIPAS Act of 2018.”

Tamoria explained that a show cause order serves as a way to determine whether an occupant has legal rights to occupy an area.
