Bureau of Immigration spokesperson Dana Krizia Sandoval said the 19-year-old woman showed a five-day itinerary to Jeju island in Korea, and Tokyo with her Japanese boyfriend.
“When she presented her passport an immigration officer immediately noticed the absence of the security features,” said Ms. Sandoval who did not disclose her name in compliance with the anti-trafficking law. During interrogation, the woman admitted that she applied for the passport through a man she met online, and was promised swift delivery after paying a certain sum.
Following the incident, BI Commissioner Jaime Morente reminded prospective Filipino travelers to secure proper documents, advising them not to transact business with fixers or racketeers they meet via internet.
