TWO weather systems -- the northeast monsoon and shear line -- are bringing light rains in parts of the archipelago while Metro Manila and the rest of the country will be experiencing localized thunderstorms, the state-run weather bureau said on Tuesday.

The Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration in its 5 a.m. advisory said the shear line -- where the hot and cold air converge -- is bringing overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over mainland Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, Aurora, Camarines Norte, Quezon and Camarines Sur.

On one hand, the northeast monsoon locally known as 'amihan' is affecting areas in extreme Northern Luzon, including Batanes, Babuyan Islands, Cordillera Administrative Region and Ilocos Region where cloudy skies with light rains will prevail, Pagasa said.Weather specialist Grace Castaneda said it would be generally fair weather in other parts of the country except for isolated downpour and thunderstorms in the afternoon or at night.
