MANILA--Tropical Depression Ambo has intensified into a tropical storm and is expected to bring rains to parts of Visayas and Mindanao, state weather bureau PAGASA said Tuesday night.
The country's first storm this year is set to bring scattered light to moderate with at times heavy rain showers over Mindanao and Eastern Visayas in the next 24 hours, the PAGASA said in its 11 p.m. advisory.Ambo was last seen 455 kilometers east northeast of Surigao City, with maximum winds of 65 km per hour and 80 kph gusts.Tropical cyclone wind Signal No. 1 could be raised over portions of Eastern Samar and the eastern portion of Northern Samar in the next 6 to 12 hours.
The quarantine measure was expanded to all of Luzon and extended twice, with Metro Manila and 2 other areas to shift to a modified lockdown until the end of the month as the enhanced community quarantine lapses on Friday. Around 20 major storms in a year hit the Philippines, the closest major landmass facing the Pacific typhoon belt.
