A federation of teachers once again urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to fulfill its mandate of protecting the rights of learners and personnel amid reports of “profiling” allegedly conducted by the police.

The Alliance of Concerned Teachers Philippines said it will protect students from profiling, but it needs the support of the education department to do so. DepEd, ACT said, should “ensure the protection of the rights of all its students and personnel.”

Earlier, ACT slammed hit National Capital Region Police Office Chief Debold Sinas for “defending” the alleged profiling of Muslim high school students. ACT noted that Sinas’ statement was “inconsistent” with the actual content of the memorandum and the conduct of the police operation.
