Vice President Leni Robredo urged the Department of Education (DepEd) to find solutions to what she called was an “alarming” report that 70,000 students cannot read in Bicol.

Robredo, a native of Bicol, made the call in a media interview in Naga City before her scheduled meeting with DepEd officials, who are in charge of the learning curriculum.

“Ang para sa akin, may problema, akuin iyong problema, maghanap ng solusyon,” the former Camarines Sur representative stressed. Results of the Philippine Informal Reading Inventory , conducted between July and August last year, showed there are 70,000 non-readers in Bicol region.
