Members of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) of Abra have declared the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels and the left leaning organizations of the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDF) “persona non grata,” according to the Philippine Army based here.

First Lieutenant John Rey F. Barro, civil military operations officer of the 24th Infantry Battalion confirmed on Monday the approval of the declaration of the Leftist groups as persona non grata in Abra in a recent meeting of the PPOC.

He added that the officials of the 27 towns of Abra have approved similar resolutions, declaring these groups as unwelcome in their respective areas. “The Abra residents said the presence of the CPP-NPA –NDF members in Abra are threats that hinder the continuous peace and development in the province,” said Barro.

“Just like in the Province of Abra; due to the atrocities and deceptions they had brought to the province, these had caused worries and fear most especially to the populace who lives in the far-flung areas that only wants to have a peaceful life,” said Lieutenant Colonel Jearie Boy P. Faminial, 24IB commander.

“Preventing the entry and unwelcoming the presence of the members of CPP-NPA-NDF in the whole Province of Abra is the essence and product of the optimistic ideas of the local government in the province and I hope that we will not stop pursuing our goals to make Abra a peaceful and ready for continuous development in order for the people to enjoy and live a harmonious life in their ancestral land,” Faminial said.
