TWO of the five armed men who figured in a shootout with the police in Libertad, Misamis Oriental on February 17 were shot dead after allegedly grabbing the gun of a police escort on their way to the Misamis Oriental Provincial Jail in Cagayan de Oro City.
Richard Son Perez and Mikee Abellana were shot and killed when they figured in a scuffle with the police upon reaching Laguindingan town at past 12 noon Friday, February 21. Police said the suspects had asked for a bathroom break when the police car that was transporting them developed a mechanical problem.
"Mao tong gibalhin ang posas sa atubangan kay nananghid sila nga mangihi human madaotan ang sakyanan,” Misamis Oriental Provincial Police Director Robert Roy Bahian said.The suspects allegedly grabbed the gun of a police escort and fired, but missed any of officers.The two suspects were killed four days after the shootout that killed a police officer, Police Staff Sergeant Ronald Caayupan, and one of their companions, Jephone Tinamisan, on February 17, 2020.
The suspects were allegedly members of a robbery group. Police are looking for two more men who took part in the encounter.
