16 cops caught smuggling contraband into Bilibid

Bureau of Corrections Spokesperson Maj. Albert Tapiru told CNN Philippines Tuesday that 14 of these cops tried to bring 14 cellphones to the maximum security compound, where high-profile inmates are detained. The bureau manages the New Bilibi Prison in Muntinlupa City.for up to ₱2.5 millionTapiru said two more members of the police's Special Weapons and Tactics tried to sneak tobacco and alcohol hidden in iced tea bottles.

He said a liter of liquor which could be bought outside for less than ₱500 can be sold for ₱6,000 inside the Bilibid.He said the Philippine National Police has committed to file administrative cases against the corrupt cops, who will also be sacked. The botched smuggling happened amid the demolition of kubol or illegal shelters in the Bilibid. Last October 11, anin one of the quadrants amid ongoing clearing operations. A surprise raid at the maximum security compound earlier yielded drugs, weapons, sex toys, disallowed appliances, and bundles of cash.
