– At least 106 more members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front have been decommissioned in Phase 2 of the foreign-assisted process meant to transform the ex-fighters into peaceful and productive citizens.
Each of the decommissioned persons got P100,000 cash as initial support for their reintegration back to society, with their families earmarked to receive healthcare, education, housing and livelihood supports from the government as part of a normalization process agreed by the government and the MILF, according to OPAPP.
OPAPP and IDP officials inaugurated early this month at Camp Abubakar, the MILF’s former headquarters, one of six JPST barracks that will be situated across the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao . Macacua lauded national and international entities involved in the peace process as well as the MILF field members for their cooperation in the transition phases.
The second phase is so far “ahead of schedule,” OPAPP Undersecretary David Diciano, chair of the government Peace Implementing Panel, announced at the event, saying the original schedule was set to culminate in April. Decommissioning is the formal process agreed upon by Malacañang and the MILF for the former combatants to lay down their arms, and live peaceful and productive civilian lives, it said.
