– A military truck bearing a platoon of soldiers plunged into a ravine in Barangay Lanipao here, killing a soldier and causing injuries to 15 others, Friday.
The truck, which was carrying troops from the 41st Company of the Fourth Mechanized Infantry Battalion , was heading back to headquarters in Barangay Rogongon when the accident happened at around 6 p.m.Lieutenant Colonel Domingo Dulay Jr., 4th MIB commander, identified the enlisted personnel who perished in the mishap as PFC Leandro Gabriel de Asia from Pagadian City. He reportedly succumbed due to internal hemorrhage secondary to blunt force trauma in the abdomen.
Fifteen persons, including 13 enlisted personnel and two Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit members, were admitted at the Adventist Medical Center Iligan for observation, while four persons, a soldier and three CAFGUs, sustained minor injuries and were discharged from the hospital, said Dulay.The remains of de Asis is still at the hospital awaiting the arrival of his family.
The soldiers had just participated in the Iligan City government’s People’s Day, which was held in line with the Community Support Pogram for the Task Force End Local Communist Armed Conflict . The activity, which Iligan City Mayor Celso G. Regencia leads every Friday, provides basic services to communities.
