Speaking to journalists in Gusau on Tuesday, Governor Bello Matawalle said the gold was wholly mined and refined by artisanal miners in the state.
The governor said, “My administration will subsequently continue to buy gold from our local miners so as to gradually improve the reserve.” Matawalle said, “Even though our state, like other states of the federation, is grappling with competing demands from the public and the resources at our disposal are meagre, we feel it is of utmost significance to invest in the future of our people.
He added, “The recent collapse of the oil market has further shown the need to diversify our economy as a safeguard from the uncertainties of the market.
Zamfara can mine gold without being in federal government exclusive list and sharing with other states, oil and even alcohol vat is shared with sharia states who contributes zero to the federal account. Northerners can do it but southerners.

So, Gold belongs to Zamfara state and not Nigeria as a whole. Whereas Crude oil belongs to Nigeria as a whole but not the Niger Deltans. It's really time for us to path ways in this country.
