Last year, the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika, announced his ministry’s plans to develop the National Framework for the Application of Climate Services, in order to help the country reduce the impacts of climate change while maximising inherent opportunities therein. To be specific, the task of producing the NFACS lies with the Nigeria Meteorological Agency, which is under the aviation ministry.

However, in his speech, no mention was made of Nigeria’s framework on climate services, as announced last year. In his presentation, the NiMet boss said that virtually all the organisation’s products and services are geared towards mitigating disasters especially the weather-induced components.

It is interesting to note that the proposed framework is a domesticated version of the WMO’s Global Framework on Climate Services. According to the WMO, the GFCS is a global partnership of governments and organisations that produce and use climate information and services. It seeks to enable researchers and the producers and users of information to join forces to improve the quality and quantity of climate services worldwide, particularly in developing countries.

Depending on the user’s needs, these data and information products may be combined with non-climate data, such as agricultural production, health trends, population distributions in high-risk areas, road and infrastructure maps for the delivery of goods, and other socio-economic variables. The aim is to support efforts to prepare for new climate conditions and adapt to their impact on water supplies, health risks, extreme events, farm productivity, infrastructure placement, and so forth.

He said 'Nigeria's framework on climate change'. Like seriously? You are most probably expecting a private sector initiative because Nigeria is led by unproductive airheads.

Kyari as a metaphor for Nigeria - Punch NewspapersThe most widely read newspaper in Nigeria For academic research purposes only please. As I’ve often noted, one should necessarily know how a modern State/Police Force/Justice System works in other to successfully run same. The Problem with Nigeria are Nigerians - the people do not know how a functioning society n it’s institutions work, so can’t build one. Simple. You're the best my friend, I love your articles. They're right on point. Wish they'd listen or read. One of the issue is misplaced priorities. Job is work. You don't get in it to be 'rich', but benefits and insurance makes a huge difference. As a result, lots of unchecked abuses.
