Prof. Emmanuel Osodeke, National President of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, has declared that if the Nigerian government does not pay their withheld eight-month salaries, university lecturers will go on strike again. The new strike would be a protest against the government’s ‘No-work, No-pay’ policy, Osodeke told Vanguard in an interview on Wednesday. SaharaReporters had reported that the ASUU suspended its eight-month-old strike after a National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Abuja in October.

December 1, 2022The new strike would be a protest against the government’s ‘No-work, No-pay’ policy, Osodeke told Vanguard in an interview on Wednesday.

SaharaReporters had reported that the ASUU suspended its eight-month-old strike after a National Executive Council meeting in Abuja in October. In its ruling on September 21, the National Industrial Court granted the motion on notice filed by the Nigerian government and ordered ASUU to end the strike and return to the classroom immediately.

However, the Court of Appeal upheld the ruling of the lower court and ordered the striking lecturers to “immediately” call off the strike and resume work with immediate effect. “Remember that we were not the ones who dragged the government to court. It was the government that took us to court. The order that the court gave was that we should go back to our duty posts while the matter is being heard.

They should pity those students involved,, my kid bro need to graduate n leave me alone 🤣🤣🤣🤣 on a serious note, students are at d receiving end ✍️ BUHARI etc children and chickens aren't studying in Nigeria but abroad, sch wey Dem go finish no work una dey suffer Dem onto🙄

No work no pay is legal the only way you can overturn it is to lobby not fight because FG/Court will always win, another strike now means no salary ASUU should consider their families cox next government might still not pay them all the backlogs

Looking at this from a constructive perspective, it is the best choice to take to avoid the yearly recurrence of ASUU strike. The government is docile and really do not want to do anything to improve our educational sector. Such actions are needed to set things right.

They wouldn’t have called it off in the first place because this is so much stress on everyone, specifically students that have paid fees, house rent and the ones the school in place far from home. Considering the state of the nations security, they are endangering people.

Waitt… what? usmannasir_ i guess i need an explanation 😂

Please let us be open this country is doomed, no quality education, no fuel,no light, God come to our rescue.
