Nigeria’s U-17 Women’s side, the Flamingos moved a step closer to securing a place at the World Cup following a 1-0 win against their hosts Ethiopia on Friday night.

Opeyemi Ajakaye scored the winning goal in the 36 minute of the final round qualifying fixture played at the Abebe Bikila Stadium in Addis Ababa. The hosts, who eliminated South Africa in the previous round, put up a good fight in the encounter, but were no match for the Nigerian ladies.Bankole Olowookere’s tutored side have scored 15 goals without conceding in five matches.

The Flamingos recorded 8-0 and 6-0 aggregate wins over Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt respectively.The Flamingos will need to avoid defeat to secure a place at the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup.
