Most people love the feeling of recognition for a job well done and irrespective of the reward, just knowing that others acknowledge their effort is like releasing adrenaline into their bodies. On the contrary, when someone has a sense of entitlement, they will often feel like the whole world revolves around them and that they deserve nothing but the best even when they have not earned it.
Children wrapped in cotton wools are more likely to become vulnerable and grow up feeling entitled as adults. Over-indulgence and lack of gratitude as a moral family virtue are some of the factors fed into your spouse as a child leaving him or her feeling entitled. The things you are grateful for can seem like mere privileges to him due to lack of appreciation for anything.
