SERAP Condemns Bill Seeking Immunity For Lawmakers

The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project has condemned the passing of a bill seeking to give leaders of federal and state legislatures immunity from prosecution for corruption.

“Providing immunity for presiding officers against crimes of corruption is tantamount to ripping up the constitution. It’s a blatant assault on the rule of law and breach of public trust. Speaking further, SERAP recalled that “countries like Guatemala has voted unanimously to strip their president of immunity from prosecution for corruption, our own lawmakers are moving in the opposite direction.”

This comes shortly after the lawmakers sought to extend immunity to cover Presiding Officers of Legislative Institutions.

Lawmakers should focus on making laws to strengthen our institutions, then, they wouldn't 'need' immunity.

SERAPNigeria Not only serap condemned it. Entire nation condemned it.

Lets all join hands to fight this. The media should lead please.

I just listened to their reason for this menace. It has scale second reading and it favours them a 💯. If they are doing well, why will they be afraid? The executive have immunity, legislature is seeking immunity, soon enough the Judiciary will be clamouring for immunity.

SERAPNigeria What are they scared of 🤷

Why are these people just wicked..greedy... insensitive...and far away from the real world. Height of nonsense displayed daily. No reasonable bills from them ...never.

🏃🏽🏃🏽🏃🏽

Immunity to finish what they have started ? They want to steal Nigeria

Mad people ......immunity to destroy us and protect themselves.

These guys want to finish Nigeria
