Bill Seeking Immunity For Lawmakers From Persecution Scales Second Reading

A cross-section of lawmakers during plenary at the House of Representatives chamber in Abuja on January 29, 2020.A bill seeking to extend immunity to cover Presiding Officers of Legislative Institutions has scaled second reading in the House of Representatives.

In supporting the bill, Majority Leader, Ado-Doguwa said: “It should be passed for the simple reason that it provides protection for leaders of the legislature considering the important work of the legislature.”However, the House Minority Leader, Ndudi Elumelu asked the lawmakers to place the interest of their constituents above personal interest.

Some of the lawmakers who opposed the bill argued that it was coming at a time when there are calls for the withdrawal of immunity from the governors.

Is this a joke?

0Apollo I ù

Nigeria be like something they can use to swear for someone. I will not Nigeria in Jesus name. Whatever that means!!

Useless thieves

They can only be immune to the laws that they make; but cant be immune to the Laws of Nature I.e Death, Aging, Gravity, Disease and Illness, etc

There should be nothing like immunity for this men. Every erring member must be prosecuted by law, all the corrupt senators should go to jail like others, orji Kalu, and the rest. No one should be left. All the constituency project funds diverted must be accounted for

We are doomed as a nation!

...if only the numbers of times anyone can use at the Senate/House of Rep. can be reduce to maximum of two years. If not, they're creating more problems than ever for the country. If only they can be selfless for once. Posterity will judge them all

This will give room to law makers to steal more while they're still power and they use the proceeds to fund their reelections each political year since there's no limit for how many times you can come to the house. As such, our elections become more brutal

🙆🙆 when there are critical issues that need to be delibrated upon.... Nigeria is finished completely

this is why our POLITHIEFTIANS will always move about with so many security details and convoys cos they know their hands are not clean. In sane climes their Politicians don't need these sort of useless law instead they even mingle with the common man. Cos they're clean.

Is this even a joke.. Immunity for lawmakers I swear Nigeria is suppose to be bomb 💣

Nigeria is going! going!! ...

Nigerian's at least Y'all can see that none of these Rogues represent you. For how long will our mumu continue, because religion and survival mentality has decimated the mindset of the masses. I'm sorry for Nigeria, the only backward country in the whole world of 21century Shame

The animal kingdom called Nigeria has finally gone IPO. Shameless uncivilized animals hearts full of criminal tendency. A time shall come when they will find no peace in the country with all their immunity power, and all their Mopol security.

For their glory is their stomach...

With all the sufferings facing the Nation, this is what you people sit down with hard earned tax payers money to deliberate on? It shall NEVER be well with you all. Awon olofo

Smh ! Do the people even know about this Bill ? Or is all these docile youth care about is give away !?

Awon olé! 😜

Useless people

Why immunity n not immortality bill to keep the alive forever with all they stole. This are suppose representatives of helpless Nigerians been killed on daily basis. No proposed bill to execute killer herdsmen, kidnappers n their big brothers BH but a selfish Bill's.Awon olé 😡

They will pass that with a twinkle of an eye

This becomes law and 9ja becomes completely jagajaga😤

gbilo Smh

There is absolutely no job for these people...when we are complaining that the immunity of the governors and president should be removed.. You idle people want to create another monster

Nigerians can form gragra but to fight against things like this, you won't see them. This guys obviously know that the citizens do not have a say. wakeupNigerians

Boko haram are killing lawmakers are seeking immunity for persecution sorryfornigeria femikuti whichwaynigeria

This is completely absurd, is this what we should be debating about, at this time! This is entirely misplaced priority. Nigerians need help from corruption which has transcended into kidnapping, stealing without impunity, robberies and killings.

Immunity for lawmakers is impunity against Nigeria. STOPTHENONSENSE

OGUN GO KILL ALL OF UNA... IMAGINE SO UNA DON GREE STYLISHLY SAY UNA DEY CORRUPT BE THAT ?IF NOT WHY IMMUNITY OR WHAT FOR? SEE NIGERIA O

Haaaa!!! Immunity? Where have i being o... O

Dz guys are trying to wear shield against crime and corruption .. Dem won wear shield , cos na wetyn gv orji kalu injury b dat

I guess we know where our problems in this country are....

Mad oooo

Unfortunate people with unthinkable phenomenon

Is this not the same idiot who has enslaved 4 women in the name of marriage? They’re seeking immunity so that when they abuse innocent Nigerians as was the case with Elisha Agbo, the one-sided laws they’ve been working on would let them get away without the public anger. Right?

Hmmmmm....

What do they need immunity for? Are they there to make laws for their selfish interest or legislate for the betterment of the country? I really don’t get it.

One of the most gready set of people in the world

What? Immuni.......what? OMG! 🙆‍♂️

This is self serving period!

Nigerian definition of Patriotism: self-seeking

Not surprised.

Hmmmm

They are not there for peoples interest

Hopeless country

It’s like asking turkey to vote for Christmas. Joke country.

Outlaws government.

always pray to vote for a leader that will scrap the house

Who is 'persecuting' them in the first place

These are issues that should scatter the country

It will soon die a natural death.

Can u imagine. How will Nigeria become great again when our lawmakers are busy fortifying themselves with legislations that will make them still without fear

This is so selfish! Wtf... Making laws to protect yourself and not the people. I hate this country

To steal in peace

God what have we done to deserve this in this country?

Are we not mad in this country like this? Second reading? Arghhh...... we are doomed

This our animal farm (Nigeria) has gone public. We are just in hell.

Persecution Prosecution

Let them pass the law but they should remember that the electorate are watching them and waiting at the election gallery. After that you will tell us if you have immunity or not. Let just system be strong

Like seriously

ℓma☺ upside down affair

Of course, they are all there for personal reasons and will only work on things that will benefit them. But one will need to ask, are they planning to remain there for life?

Hope they get to see the surveys from the people that sent them there. Totally unnecessary!

Misplaced priority

Immunity to commit crime.

Awon olofo

What persecution?

Who is surprised?

Oh dear 😱 😱😱 😱
