A coalition of civil society groups in Rivers State yesterday staged peaceful protests in Port Harcourt, the state capital, demanding for the redeployment of the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in the state, Obo Effanga.

Presenting the letters of protest, leader of the protesters, Omenazu Jackson, alleged that the actions and inactions of the INEC REC is capable of throwing this state into anarchy. “We don’t want to take laws into our hands. We believe that it is expedient we complain to the necessary authorities , especially security agencies for them to look into the activities of the Resident Electoral Commissioner whose actions has shown clear partisanship.

Ude said: “We are indeed very happy that you are here conducting yourselves very peacefully. We promise you that the letter you just handed over to us will get to the appropriate quarters. We want to appeal to you to remain peaceful. We believe that everything will be okay.”
