The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), has called on the authorities of affected universities to reverse immediately all increments in school fees, while urging institutions considering such option to shelve it. The umbrella body of Nigerian students warned that any university that failed to comply with the directive of the Federal Government on the fee increment should be ready for nationwide confrontation from Nigerian students.

Nigerian Students Body, NANS Asks Universities To Reverse Alarming School Fees, Mobilises Members For Nationwide ProtestThe umbrella body of Nigerian students warned that any university that failed to comply with the directive of the Federal Government on the fee increment should be ready for nationwide confrontation from Nigerian students.

NANS gave the warning in a statement issued on Friday, which was signed by its National Public Relations Officer, Giwa Yisa Temitope. "Needless to say, the recent removal of subsidy on fuel has brought untold hardship on our parents. The agonising pains and struggles our parents have to endure are such that have never been experienced before in the history of this country. More than 150 million Nigerians are living in multidimensional poverty. Small businesses are closing up, and Nigerians are finding it difficult to survive. Our parents have borne more than enough hardship.

NANS, however, stated that if there will be any increment in school fees, it must be within the minimum salary rate of"our parents", as it had argued with the management of the University of Lagos. "Accordingly, Students Union Presidents and all organs of NANS are forthwith directed to start mobilising their members for a total showdown in the event any tertiary institutions decide to dare our resolve to fight for our right to public education," the statement partly read.
