The University of Lagos has been asked to halt the implementation of the new hike in school fees and set up a joint committee comprising representatives of management, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Students, and the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS). This is contained in a resolution reached during a meeting between the Management and the student delegation on Wednesday.

The committee according to the resolution made available to SaharaReporters on Thursday, by Students’ Solidarity Group Against Fee Hike ,"shall examine University financing, the workability of the management's palliative program, the number of students it can cover, and forthwith recommend to University administration through its report if an increment is necessary, and to what extent.

"On the side of the students' delegation are the NANS PRO, Comrade Giwa Yisa Temitope, Comr. Kazeem Olalekan , Juwon Sanyaolu , Duro Rike , Management Science Students’ Association President-elect, Isaac Toriola , Faculty of Education Students’ Association President-elect, Ibrahim Balogun , Phillip Olatinwo , Modupe , Adewale Fashola , Oluwakemi Oyelumade ."

She explained to the delegation that the University's expenses cannot be covered by the N21,000 students paid. Lamenting the economic crunch facing the university, added that exam costs had quadrupled. According to her, the University spends roughly N2 billion annually on electricity bills and N10 million monthly to give students access to the internet on campus.
