The Police, on Friday, arraigned one Lawrence Amadasun, 42, before an Ogbeson Chief Magistrates’ Court in Benin City for alleged stealing of N6.2 million

The defendant is being tried for a two-count charge of conspiracy and stealing. Police prosecutor, Insp. Charity Asemota alleged that the defendant committed the offence on Dec. 16, 2019. According to her, the defendant conspired with others at large and stole the sum of N6. 2 million belonging to one Mr. Moses Sunday.

He said the offence contravened the provision of Sections 516 and 390 64 of the Criminal Code Cap. 48 Vol. 11, Laws of the defunct Bendel State of Nigeria, 1976, now applicable in Edo. If found guilty of stealing, a convict stands a seven-year jail term.The Chief Magistrate, Prince Mutairu Oare, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N200,000 , with two sureties in like sum.

He added that the sureties residence and place of work information must be verified by the Court Registrar.Related Topics:
