The date marks the day in 1882 when Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the bacterium that causes TB, which opened the way towards diagnosing and curing the disease.

World TB Day creates an opportunity to focus on the people affected by the disease and to call for accelerated action to end TB suffering and deaths, especially in the midst of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

He said, “Since January to date, more than 130 people have been diagnosed with the disease, and we receive about 20 patients daily.
