Tottenham star Son Heung-min is now one year younger after South Korea changed how they count their citizens’ ages.

Before now, the Asian country’s method of age counting saw all babies counted as one-year-olds at birth; this included their gestation period. With their old method of counting age, everyone from the country would also become a year older on January 1st – even those born in December. However, the country has now adopted international methods, where babies are counted as zero upon birth and have a year to their age annually.

Tottenham forward, Son was born on July 8, 1992, and has always been classified by the international method in the United Kingdom. This means that his age will remain the same on various stats websites. He has now become younger back in his homeland, while his contract and registration with Tottenham will not be affected.

A year is then added on January 1 -- meaning, for example, a baby born on December 31 would be two years old the next day, according to Reuters.
