A medical doctor, James Negedu, has been remanded in the Lafia prison for the death of a member of the National Youth Service Corps, Pascaline Madueke, in the Lafia area of Nasarawa State.

Madueke, who was a Batch ‘C’ corps member that served in Adogi, Lafia East Development area of the state, was said to have lost her life following a surgical operation at the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Lafia.

During an interview with our correspondent, Negedu said the deceased’s uncle, one Ndubuisi, brought her to his clinic on January 18, adding that Madueke complained of headache, abdominal pain, typhoid, malaria and general body pain.He noted that when her condition worsened, a scan was carried out which revealed that she had a pelvic inflammatory disease, as well as a five-month-old dead foetus in her womb.

The doctor, while contesting his detention, stated that he referred the corps member to another hospital because he could no longer manage her. When contacted, the Nasarawa State NYSC Coordinator, Zainab Isa, said Madueke died after a surgery, adding that she did not know the cause of her death.

Many people have died due to doctors and nurses carelessness and mistakes. My daughter was a victim of nurse mistakes.

Properly investigate and apply appropriate sanctions promptly. Train them as they progress in practice. Nigerians usually become sentimental at point of application of sanctions to deserving offenders. Nigerians shy away from pursuing cases of abuse/dereliction of duty to d end

May her soul rest in peace, he was my colleague at PPA.

INTERVIEW: Why I've remained in Ekiti practising as a doctor for decades - Ayodeji Aturamu - Premium Times NigeriaAyodeji Aturamu is a native of Ekiti State, South-west Nigeria. He had his early education in the local area and his higher education in the urban areas of Western Nigeria. 'When I graduated in 1985, Nigeria was a country to live in with abundance and satisfaction then. There was societal appreciation and respect for medical doctors. It is, however, a rollercoaster of joy and serious challenges practising medicine in Nigeria, and worse still...' 'Because of the very selfish, myopic and corrupt leaders we have at federal, state and local government levels, 8 out 10 Nigerians do not have access to affordable and equitable medical care.' Labour minister 'not worried' doctors leave Nigeria | The Guardian Nigeria News - Nigeria and World NewsNigeria’s labour minister, Chris Ngige, in spite of an appalling doctor-patient ratio, says he is not worried about how medical doctors are leaving the country in large numbers, because Nigeria has a “surplus.” Nigeria Ngige DoctorsInNigeria The minister doesn't care about the citizenry. Infact, it looks like a saboteur to the present administration. There is a huge gap between the political elites and the people. Both are living in separate worlds. I have the feeling that Ngige always 'highs' himself each time he's invited to come to the studio, otherwise, he shouldn't be embarrassing himself as he just did.

FACT CHECK: Does Nigeria Truly Have A Surplus Of Doctors, As Claimed By Ngige? | Sahara ReportersAccording to data from the World Health Organization, over 45% of WHO Member States report to have less than one physician per 1,000 populations; Nigeria, as expected, is part of them. WHO recommended that the appropriate ratio of people to doctor is 1:100. WHO I believe Dr. Ngige has a lot on his head...so saying we have surplus of medical practitioners is just a bit crazy. How can we have 1 physician to 1000 patients..? WHO All i know is Dr.Ngige domestic staff needs to be investigated for putting tramadol in his coffee before the interview. WHO Where are they? Go to any government hospital, Federal or State; you will see the hell few doctors employed are passing through. They often overwork because they are short of staff.
