Nigeria’s labour minister, Chris Ngige, in spite of an appalling doctor-patient ratio, says he is not worried about how medical doctors are leaving the country in large numbers, because Nigeria has a “surplus.” Nigeria Ngige DoctorsInNigeria

In spite of an appalling doctor-patient ratio, Nigeria’s labour minister said he is not worried about how medical doctors are leaving the country in droves.

A report published Britain’s General Medical Council shows that 896 doctors of Nigerian nationality sat for Professional and Linguistic Assessments Board test between September 2016 and June 2017. The survey revealed that the reasons for the continuous brain drain in the health sector include challenges such as high taxes and deduction from salary , low work satisfaction , poor salaries and emoluments and the huge knowledge gap that exists in the medical practice abroad amongst others.

“Those guys go there, they are better trained because of the facilities they have there. Eventually, I know a couple of them who practise abroad but set up medical centres back home.” Medical Association of Nigerians Across Great Britain said there are more “5000 Physicians, Nurses, Radiographers, Pharmacists and other Healthcare professionals of Nigerian origin.”According to an estimate, about 2,000 doctors have left Nigeria over the past few years. They blamed their emigrating on poor working conditions. The federal government budgeted N315.62 billion for the ministry of health in the 2019 spending list, only four per cent of the budget.

Buhari has just arrived in London for treatment and check up, and back in Nigeria 🇳🇬 his minister says it is no problem for Nigerian Doctors to leave Nigeria? What a great shame and disgrace new level

He's out of touch.. clueless minister.

Baba, this ragamuffin affiliation has done a huge damage to your psychy and integrity. The good name you built as the governor of Anambra, has been seriously dented and damaged by the cabalistic disease, you've been infected with, by your association with vampires...

Can you just imagine

Haba! He was referring to native doctors!

He is a Medical doctor himself, he can replace everyone of them.

This guys are now frustrated

This is inconsistency of expression by the hon minister. Nigeria which one we dey?

I have the feeling that Ngige always 'highs' himself each time he's invited to come to the studio, otherwise, he shouldn't be embarrassing himself as he just did.

There is a huge gap between the political elites and the people. Both are living in separate worlds.

The minister doesn't care about the citizenry. Infact, it looks like a saboteur to the present administration.
