Dj moonlait: Good DJs must make audiences go crazy

Music is indeed the soul of life and business for Queen Martha Udeme otherwise known as DJ Moonlait in the bustling Nigerian entertainment industry. Her foray into what basically a male-dominated arena wasn’t smooth sailing but the Computer Science graduate from Rivers State University of Science and Technology in Port Harcourt has since carved out a niche for herself.

Did your parents approve your decision going into disc jockeying; and what did you go through before hitting the limelight? Of course, I have the support of my parents and in short, all my family members. In fact some of the early jobs I got as DJ were possible due to the referrals I got through my parents and family members. So they approved my choice f career right from the start. After I decided to be a disc jockey, I decided to be going out because that is one of the things I have to do. I was not a night crawler but I was forced to become one because I needed to see a lot of DJ while on duty.

Let’s have a ten-year challenge; what were you doing ten years ago and what are your plans for the next 10 years? Ten years ago, I was hustling; jumping from one bus to the other from Port Harcourt to Lagos by getting stuff to sell in my boutique. I was very successful in the business. Ten years from now, it’s only God that knows where I would be. I don’t know if I would still be a DJ ten years from now but if I’m I should be on the top ten chart of female DJs in the world. Already, I’m on the top ten charts of female DJs in Africa and I want my name to be house hold on the continent and beyond.
