Nigerian newspapers: 10 things you need to know Sunday morning

1. The Independent National Electoral Commission on Saturday declared the Peoples Democratic Party governorship candidate, Bello Matawalle, winner of Zamfara State governorship election. INEC chairman, Mahmood Yakubu, made this known during a press conference monitored by DAILY POST in Abuja on Saturday. According to Yakubu, PDP won in all elective positions in the state.

3. The Governor of Zamfara state, Abdulaziz Yari Abubakar has described the judgement of the Supreme Court on Zamfara APC candidates’ tussle as ‘Allah’s will. In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Public Enlightenment, Media and Communication, Mallam Ibrahim Dosara, Yari said the party and its supporters in the state “have done everything possible to ensure APC did not lose Zamfara state but as Allah wanted, the party lost the state.

5. MTN Nigeria Communications Plc on Saturday said that it was being investigated by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission over listing of its shares on the Nigerian Stock Exchange . A statement posted on the exchange website and signed by MTN Nigeria Communications, Company Secretary, Uto Ukpanah confirmed the investigation. The statement said that the company received a letter on May 23, from EFCC requesting information and documentation relating to the listing of its shares on the NSE.

7. The Peoples Democratic Party , Saturday congratulated Zamfara State Governor-elect, Bello Mohammed Matawalle, all federal and State legislators-elect, as well as people of Zamfara State over the recent Supreme court verdict in favour of the party. It also said the apex court judgment was a triumph of the will of the people over manipulative forces. PDP spokesman, Kola Ologbondiyan said this in a statement made available to newsmen in Abuja.
