The President, Major General Muhammadu Buhari on Monday commiserated with the Aguiyi-Ironsi family, as well as the government and people of Abia State on the death of Mrs Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, widow of the first military Head of State, Major General Johnson Aguiyi-Ironsi.Buhari’s condolence message was contained in a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina, titled ‘President Buhari mourns Victoria Aguiyi-Ironsi, wife of the first military Head of State.
The statement read, “The President affirms that Lady Victoria’s incredible strength and exceptional courage during one of the darkest moments in our nation’s history pedestals her as a mother of the nation, God-fearing and a foremost woman of valour.” Similarly, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, in a statement by the Director of Information, Office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Willie Bassey, said the deceased was part of the founding members of the Nigerian Army Officers’ Wives Association, adding that she would be missed by former First Ladies in the country.
