Chris Finebone is the Publicity Secretary of the All Progressives Congress in Rivers State led by the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi. In this interview with DENNIS NAKU, he speaks on the crisis rocking the party in the stateFirst and foremost, there was no parallel congress. Congress took place at only one location, which was the Polo Club Field in Port Harcourt. That was where congress took place. That was where Emeka Beke and others emerged.

That was also why at the congress ground, seats were kept for them, especially those of them who are statutory delegates. But none of them turned up. Their event was just a press conference and they claimed ward, local government and state officers had emerged. They never told anybody when those congresses held. They simply said these persons had emerged. Now, that will explain to you and to anybody that they are the people causing the problem.

In any case, the state congress in a state is usually conducted by the national headquarters of a political party, and they did so at the Polo Club field. The other faction has not been able to claim that any single individual from national headquarters was seconded to them to conduct their congress. So, what they are trying to say is that they set exams for themselves and they passed. Therefore, they are the ones causing the problem in APC.

When the Supreme Court gave judgment that the internal affairs of parties should be handled by parties, Senator Magnus Abe gave the impression that he agreed with the Supreme Court. He also acknowledged that Isaac Ogbobula was the caretaker committee chairman of the party in the state. But that was where he stopped; he never went further to submit himself to the revalidation exercise, and he asked his people not to revalidate their membership as well.

Again, he never submitted to the ward congresses that were held. Therefore, he also did not submit himself to the local government congress that held thereafter. Only for his group to now come up later to claim to have done all those things. Clearly, you will now see that he is the source of all the problems that we have had in Rivers APC. Don’t forget that he went to court which resulted in the APC not been on the ballot during the conduct of the 2019 governorship election in the state.
