Bandits in a weekend killing spree have claimed six soldiers, including two officers in an ambush.

Army spokesman, Major General Onyema Nwachukwu could not confirm the incident when contacted at around 3:00 pm. He did not respond to inquiries sent to his phone line. The terrorists reportedly killed two vigilantes and abducted an army Captain…

The bandits were also said to have killed a hunter and two farmers as well as burnt houses, food banks and motorcycles. Intelligence sources told Zagazola Makama,a counter terrorism expert around Lake Chad region that the bandits dressed in women’s clothing while others camouflage in different attire before carrying out the attacks from different points.

The Combined troops comprising the Army, Zamfara State Community Protection Guard, Civilian Joint Task Force, repelled the attack. “Troops gallantly fought through the ambush and eliminated several of the terrorists as well as captured some of their equipment. “The Chief of Army Staff was represented at the burial which took place at Minna Military Cantonment Cemetery by the Commander Training and Doctrine Command , Maj Gen Kelvin Aligbe.

A malaria expert, Prof. Olugbenga Mokuolu, has cautioned the public against spreading misinformation about the malaria vaccine, saying it is safe and a huge boost to the global malaria eradication efforts.
