The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria, HURIWA, has shared its opinion on what it considers the major reasons behind recent attacks on the

The group also stated why it feels that police officers were recently beheaded in the South East.

HURIWA condemned the violent attacks by armed hoodlums in Katsina that targeted the Labour Party presidential candidate and his Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, counterpart in Maiduguri, Borno State. The governorship candidate of the PDP in Lagos, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, was also targeted during one of his campaign rallies. The human rights advocacy group also said the serial beheading of politicians by unidentified armed non-state actors in Imo and Anambra states and the killings of political opposition politicians in Ebonyi State are symptomatic of a failed state.

HURIWA said the clear collapse of the Nigeria Police Force in terms of the enforcement of the law shows that next month’s election may be marred by uncontrollable violence except President Muhammadu Buhari declares a nationwide security emergency and deploy special forces all around the country to deal decisively with armed non-state actors.

HURIWA said it strongly condemns attacks on opposition politicians in the APC-controlled Lagos State, Borno and Kaduna states.

Presidential Election: Tinubu, Obi, Atiku make vague promises on securityA radical departure from the existing policy is needed to enhance safety, but the candidates’ proposed reforms miss the mark. Mr Tinubu does not take a stance on any of the following: using private security to protect national assets; how much of the national budget should be committed to defence and security; and engaging the armed groups driving Nigeria’s crisis. So Tinubu policy on security can’t even discuss With what Pmb has achieved vis a vis decimating Boko Haram, equipping the military with hardware, technology etc....it is either the candidate says they will continue from there or have no singular idea on the topic. Tinubu already says he will continue.
