An Ondo State Magistrates’ Court sitting in Akure, on Tuesday, ordered the remand of 13 persons for allegedly looting a church, Sotitobire Praise Chapel, Oshinle, Akure.

The defendants, who were arraigned by the state police command, included Udeme Eyo, Ikechukwu Njoku, Ayodimeji Jimoh, Bamisaye Ojo, Balogun Ayomide and Steve Adekunle.

Others are Sesan Agbi, Stephen Omotosho, James Omogbolahan, Ademola Aderibigbe, Rotimi Oluwadare, Ayo Ifedayo and Samuel Shitu. They were allegedly caught with the properties of the church after it was set ablaze by some residents of Akure, who protested the abduction of a one-year-old boy, Gold Kolawole, in the church during a Sunday service last month.

The founder of the church, Alfa Babatunde, and six other members had been arraigned before the same court on Monday for allegedly aiding the kidnapping of the boy.READ ALSO:The police prosecutor, Mr Moses Adeosun, prayed the court to remand the defendants in the Olokuta Correctional Centre pending the outcome of ongoing investigation into the matter.

After the arguments of Adeosun and the defence counsel, Mr Femi Saliu, the magistrate, Mrs Charity Adeyanju, ruled that the defendants should be remanded in the correctional centre and adjourned the case till January 3, 2020.All rights reserved.
