Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead's season is over after he was injured in a car accident. He is expected to be sidelined for multiple weeks.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety Jordan Whitehead has been placed on the team's Non-Football Injury List after being injured in an automobile accident on Saturday, according to the Tampa Bay Times' Rick Stroud. While the specifics of the accident are unclear, Whitehead is reported to be in overall good health, but his injuries will sideline him for 'multiple weeks', as per Stroud.
This absence will likely keep him out of the playoffs and end his season prematurely, just one game after his return to the team following a pectoral injury sustained against the New York Giants in Week 12. Whitehead rejoined the team in the 2024 offseason after spending two years with the New York Jets. His season has been plagued by injuries, including quad issues and the pectoral injury against the Giants that kept him out until Week 17's game against the Panthers. Now, due to the accident, he'll be sidelined once again. With Whitehead out, Tampa Bay's top three safeties from the start of the season — Antoine Winfield Jr., Jordan Whitehead, and Christian Izien — will be unavailable for the game against the New Orleans Saints. Whitehead's absence for the rest of the season means that if Winfield Jr. recovers in time for the playoffs, he will be alongside newly acquired safety Mike Edwards
