CANTON, Ohio — Down to one last play, Avon’s defense denied Cincinnati Anderson on a fourth-down pass to the end zone to clinch the Eagles’Anderson needed to score from the 22-yard line until senior safety Aiden Atkins broke up the final pass from Justice Burnam to Trace Jallick.
Avon never trailed, thanks to Nolan Good’s early 71-yard touchdown run and second-quarter TD pass to Matt Maxey. Anderson nearly pulled even with its opening drive of the third quarter, but Jakob Weatherspoon blocked an extra point that followed Burnam’s 6-yard run. Good rushed for 190 yards on 19 carries with his long TD run on Avon’s opening drive. He also threw for 143 yards on 8-of-15 passing, while Maxey hauled in three receptions for 83 yards.Burnam paced Anderson with 156 yards rushing and one score on 32 carries, while adding another 150 yards on 19-of-33 passing with a second-quarter TD toss to Aiden McClanahan. Senior safety Jayonn Saunders led the Raptors’ defense with 11 tackles.
