On Friday, Bishop McDevitt defeated Roman Catholic in an overtime thriller, clinching their second state title in the last three years. Roman Catholic, who mounted an 18-point second-half comeback, ultimately fell after Aidan Grella nailed a field goal to seal the 34-31 victory. “To win that game the same way we lost last year,” said Bishop McDevitt quarterback Stone Saunders. “I’m so proud of these guys.”
In the game, Saunders broke the Pennsylvania all-time passing yards record, adding to the passing touchdown record he broke earlier in the season.A four-star prospect by ESPN, Saunders is committed to play at the University of Kentucky next year. On Thursday, the Lampeter-Strasburg Pioneers lost to the Bonner-Prendegrast Friars, 40-14. Lampeter-Strasberg was making its first appearance in a state championship in program history and was 14-1 on the season.
